Reviews
Thin book, 7 pieces, the song list is in the product description. Six are very well known, I'm personally not familiar with one of the pieces, "O Come Little Children." Two songs overlap with PA's PlayTime Christmas Level 1, namely "O Come, All Ye Faithful" and "Jingle Bells." O Come, All Ye Faithful is slightly arranged with a bit more complexity in this book, with a few intervals in the left hand in the last few measures. Ditto for Jingle Bells in this book, with more left hand two-note intervals especially towards the end of the piece, and a lot more dynamics around legato and staccato. PlayTime only ever requires a single note to be played by the left hand.In general, as I look through the two books, I'd say that this Christmas Level 1 has many more two-note intervals for the left hand, occasionally a three note C chord, however it doesn't have accidentals (sharps, flats). PlayTime Christmas Level 1 only ever has one note for the LH at a time, but fairly often the pieces have accidentals. Both books have Teacher Duets. This book has the "Stocking Stuffers" which are simple sight reading exercises for each piece, which are nice if the student is working on sight reading. All in all, I'd say that PlayTime Christmas Level 1 is slightly easier that this book, providing the student can handle accidentals. For an early Level 1 student, I'd get PlayTime Christmas because there are 12 pieces, 11 of which are very well known. For a later Level 1 student, I'd be tempted to get this book because the simple intervals will give it a richer sound for a recital.
